When I started my business i used to be polite and lovely with everybody, I visited all the local restaurants, usually owned by famous chefs and restauranteurs who owned several restaurants, the foodie community praised those guys, the food bloggers made amazing reviews and everybody was happy.
Then I learned that lots of these restaurants are owned by assholes, assholes who don´t pay their suppliers making them face bankruptcy, assholes who take their employees tips and assholes who harass their female staff, I was angry and devastated. These restaurants where busy, cool, hip, and while abusing small cheese producers, wine importers, farmers, and aspiring chefs, What kind of world are we living in? Why these assholes are famous and rich?
I decided to take a stand, and publicly announced that I was not working with any of those restaurants, the reactions where anger and surprise, they told me it was not my rol to do that, that I should just work and be quiet, that it was not my problem.
Well, IT IS MY PROBLEM. Every time the society remains silent while abusers live a happy life we are encouraging their bad behaviour, if you are neutral you are on the side of the opresor, and i refuse to be on their side.
Now we only work with nice restauranteurs who pay on time to their suppliers and never abuse their employees, we believe that our money is powerful and if these people stop being successful they will either change or go out of business. We try to do our research, but sometimes it takes time to discover that one of our restaurants became an asshole, and then we change our tours, we want to give our money to the nice people, to the ones who share our vision, our passion and our love for Mexico, we want to reward good practices and raise our voice to tell the bad guys that we wont take their shit, we need better business owners, and we need to be better consumers.
And this is our prerogative!
