Day of the death or dia de Muertos is my favorite festivity in Mexico, and I’m really happy you choose to come on these days. The city tends to be chaotic and lots of activities are going on around Dia de Muertos, here is what you can do:
Food
October 28 – November 2
AT Restaurante Temporal, Saltillo 1, Condesa
Day of the death menu: Diego Pérez Turner, Temporal´s chef created a menu inspired in the Day of The death festivity, this includes a blue tetela stuffed with Hoja Santa, duck barbacoa with dried chiles and avocado leaves, cactus salad and huitlacoche and potato puree and a chocolate and cherimoya cake with baked guavas and amaranth tuiles, Diego also created a vegetarian version of this menu that is equally delicious. Temporal is a great spot for a chill afternoon, they have great cocktails and the location is perfect.
October 10 – November 3
Pan de Muerto: It is a sweetened soft bread shaped like a bun, decorated with bone-shaped phalange pieces. Pan de Muerto is eaten on Día de Muertos, the recipe can include anise seeds, orange flower water or orange zest. Our favorite places to try it are Maque, Panadería Rosetta and Superama (yes the grocery store they make pan de Muerto stuffed with Nutella, Ricotta cheese and other delicious options)
